Jay Wadley to score Netflix’s ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’

Jay Wadley has been hired to score the upcoming Netflix original movie I’m Thinking of Ending Things. The film is written and directed by Charlie Kaufman (Anomalisa, Synecdoche, New York) and stars Jesse Plemons, Jessie Buckley, Toni Collette and David Thewlis. The drama is based on Iain Reid’s best-selling novel of the same title and follows a man as he is going on a road trip to meet his parents on their secluded farm with his girlfriend and is thinking of terminating their relationship. Kaufman is also producing the project with Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Foxcatcher, Begin Again), Stefanie Azpiazu (Enough Said, Private Life) and Bob Salerno (21 Grams, Nocturnal Animals).

Wadley (Tales of the City, Cruise) has previously scored Likely Story’s feature Indignation produced by Bregman. I’m Thinking of Ending Things is currently in post-production. No word yet on a release date.

Samurai Marathon (2019) Soundtrack Album Announced

Orange Mountain Music will release a soundtrack album for the period action movie Samurai Marathon. The album features the movie’s music composed by Academy Award nominee Philip Glass. The soundtrack is comprised of short excerpts of the composer’s music from MishimaThe Fog of War & Naqoyqatsi , movements from Symphonies 2, 3 and 8, Violin Concerto No. 1, as well as the operas Akhnaten and Satyagraha.

The pieces were newly recorded for the project with the City of Prague Philharmonic under the baton of Richard Hein. The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 19. A CD version is set to be released on August 16 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

amurai Marathon is directed by Bernard Rose and stars Takeru Satoh, Nana Komatsu Mirai Moriyama, Shota Sometani, Munetaka Aoki, Ryu Kohata, Yuta Koseki and Danny Huston. The movie is based on the novel The Marathon Samurai: Five Tales of Japanʼs First Marathon and follows a young ninja who is operating undercover in the court of an aging Lord during a peaceful era of Japan that is on the brink of change. The drama will open in select U.S. theaters next year by Well Go USA Entertainment.

Amazon’s ‘This Is Football’ To Be Scored by Lorne Balfe

Scottish composer Lorne Balfe is set to score the upcoming Amazon docu-series This Is Football. The show written and co-created by journalist and author John Carlin will tell six stories about the global power of soccer, including football’s uplifting role in Rwanda after the genocide, the rise of the women’s game, and Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi. James Erskine serves as creative director. No premiere date has been announced yet for This Is Football, which will be available to stream on Amazon Prime.

DC Universe’s Stargirl TV Series Has a Composer

DC Universe’s Stargirl series is getting help from a genre related musician. In a recent interview on Score: The Podcast (via Film Music Reporter), composer Pinar Toprak said that she will be scoring the upcoming live-action series.

The show is based on the DC characters created by Geoff Johns and stars Brec Bassinger, Luke Wilson, Amy Smart, Neil Jackson, Hunter Sansone, Joel McHale and Trae Romano. The drama tells the story of high-school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past and reimagines the classic superhero team the Justice Society of America.

As Pinar Toprak recently scored a very successful Captain Marvel film, we are very excited to listen to her new compositions in this upcoming TV series.

Composer Geoff Zanelli to Score a Thriller ‘Black and Blue’

Composer Geoff Zanelli is teaming with director Deon Taylor again. This time, they are working together on an upcoming thriller Black and Blue, which got its trailer released just yesterday.

The synopsis of the movie was stated on IMDb: ,,Exposure follows a rookie Detroit African-American female cop who stumbles upon corrupt officers who are murdering a drug dealer, an incident captured by her body cam. They pursue her through the night in an attempt to destroy the footage, but to make matters worse, they’ve tipped off a criminal gang that she’s responsible for the dealer’s death.”

The screenplay was written by Peter A. Dowling and Sean Sorensen is producing the project. Geoff has previously collaborated with Taylor on last year’s Traffik and this year’s The Intruder. This film Black and Blue is set to be be released on 25th of October by Screen Gems/Sony Pictures.

Disney’s The Lion King – starring Beyoncé as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba – is in theaters on July 19. Today, the official film’s soundtrack has been announced. It’s out digitally on July 11 and physically July 19 (via Walt Disney Records).

The soundtrack features Beyoncé and Childish Gambino’s rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which was previewed in a recent teaser. The soundtrack also includes selections from Hans Zimmer’s score, production from Pharrell (on Tracks 4, 9, 12, and 19), and appearances from Seth Rogen (who voices Pumbaa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), John Oliver (Zazu), Billy Eichner (Timon), and others.

The official synopsis of the film states: ,,From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother – and former heir to the throne – has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
